One Thousand Days Transformed - The Campaign for Cedarville

Amid global conflict and cultural shifts, one Cedarville University professor is helping students better understand world events. 

Dr. Kyung-hwa (Christine) Kim, associate professor of , was recently appointed as a Higher Education Ambassador with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a globally recognized bipartisan think tank with main headquarters in New York City and Washington, D.C. CFR supports high school and college educators by providing classroom-ready resources focused on international affairs.  

Dr. Kyung-hwa Kim.As a CFR education ambassador, Kim will cultivate global literacy in her students by helping them identify their roles in current events. 

Through the eight-month program, Kim will attend CFR-led professional development sessions, network with other higher education representatives and integrate CFR鈥檚 educational resources in her classroom.  

鈥淚 believe in what CFR is doing,鈥 said Kim. 鈥淏eing selected as an ambassador for their cause gives me more passion for what I teach.鈥  

A Seoul, South Korea, native, Kim teaches courses and leads extracurricular programs focused on international affairs, like leading the  program in Seoul, Korea.  

鈥淚 believe that my students need to know about the world,鈥 said Kim. 鈥淵ou have to know about your own country as well as the world. You can鈥檛 dissociate yourself from what鈥檚 happening internationally.鈥 

Kim emphasized the significance of CFR鈥檚 resources, which she described as free, timely and high-quality. 鈥淚 need up-to-date information for my courses, but textbooks are generally dated. These resources are not,鈥 said Kim. 

Ultimately, Kim hopes her students develop a deeper understanding of their role in international affairs. 鈥淕lobal education is so important. We live in an interconnected world 鈥 wherever you go in life, you鈥檒l interact with people from all around the world,鈥 said Kim. 鈥淎s Christians, we are called to serve as ambassadors for Christ, equipped with biblical knowledge and spiritual sensitivity. We don鈥檛 know where God will call us, but we want to be ready when He does.鈥
