The premier interprofessional education (IPE) event for college students in health-related academic disciplines is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1. This event, which will allow participants to find solutions for health care scenarios in breakout sessions, will be held from 9 a.m. until noon in the Scharnberg Business and Communication Center at Cedarville University.
This year鈥檚 patient cases were carefully crafted by Cedarville鈥檚 associate professor of pharmacy practice, Dr. Nate Smith, and other faculty in Cedarville's nursing, pharmacy, allied health and physician assistant programs.
鈥淭hey鈥檙e very well-rounded cases, such that health care providers from a single discipline wouldn鈥檛 be able to effectively treat the patient on their own,鈥 Smith said. 鈥淵ou need a variety of disciplines to collaborate on patient care, and we wanted to capitalize on that to engage everyone in attendance.鈥
This event will bring together all of Cedarville鈥檚 health care programs, including pharmacy, nursing, physician assistant, athletic training and social work. They will be joined by students from the University of Dayton鈥檚 clinical mental health program, Wittenberg University鈥檚 nursing program and Wright State University鈥檚 Boonshoft School of Medicine, among others.
This care collaboration event has been held for the last seven years, and it has been hosted at Cedarville for the last five.
鈥淭he event鈥檚 benefit for students is twofold: learning what the other disciplines know and how they contribute makes them better teammates, and meeting people that they are likely to work alongside after graduation helps get those relationships started early,鈥 Smith said.
Health care students interested in this event can register online at by Jan. 25 to attend the event on Feb. 1.
