A partnership between Cedarville University and Legacy Christian Academy in Xenia will offer Legacy students rigorous college-level courses without leaving the Legacy campus. The credits earned through the program from Cedarville's dual enrollment program can be used toward both high school and college graduation.
The unique partnership will allow Legacy鈥檚 high school instructors to teach Cedarville鈥檚 English courses from their own classrooms.
鈥淲ith dual enrollment, students often leave the high school campus to take their college classes,鈥 said Stephen Buettell, director of dual enrollment. 鈥淎s a result, they lose a lot of high school leadership opportunities and connections. But with Cedarville鈥檚 partnership with Legacy Christian, the students maintain their high school community while taking college-level classes.鈥
This partnership is the first of its kind for the university. Legacy is an ideal candidate for this pilot partnership due to its proximity, alumni connections and desire to maintain the core biblical foundation of Cedarville University courses.
鈥淲e value the Christian high school experience,鈥 said Buettell. 鈥淗opefully, students will be encouraged that Christian education doesn鈥檛 just end in high school.鈥
While Legacy Christian Academy will be the only school partnering with the University in the fall, more Ohio-based Christian schools are expected to follow in the coming years.
鈥淥ftentimes, high school teachers have incredible skills,鈥 said Buettell. 鈥淭his program allows us to encourage those who have earned a master's degree and let them teach at the college level.鈥
