School of Education Launches Professional Journal

by Heidie Raine, Student Public Relations Writer

Dr. Kevin JonesCedarville University鈥檚 School of Education is in the process of compiling and editing its first academic journal, scheduled for publication in spring 2021.

Dr. Kevin Jones, assistant professor of education and school dean, was motivated to organize the journal as an educational resource written from a Christian perspective.

鈥淭here are many journals out there that share insight on education, but there aren鈥檛 many clear resources where we can say, 鈥楾his is what Christians are turning to,鈥欌 Jones shared. 鈥淗aving spoken with Christian schools and public school teachers, they鈥檝e continually said they need help with biblical integration, and we believe a journal will be a helpful resource for that.鈥

With other options available for presenting information, such as blogs and newsletters, Jones believes that the peer-review process makes a journal the best platform.

鈥淧eople need reliable information, and by checking all of our content through peer review and our editorial board, we are confident we can provide just that,鈥 Jones noted.

Jones is especially excited for the opportunity to highlight the scholarship of Cedarville鈥檚 education professors.

鈥淢y co-workers are incredibly intelligent and insightful,鈥 Jones added. 鈥淐edarville is a teaching college, full of scholar-practitioners, and one of my goals is to highlight that scholar component.鈥

The journal will have a wide variety of content written by Cedarville faculty and scholars from other universities.

鈥淲e want to include what Ph.D. and doctoral students are writing at sister programs,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e will include what practicing scholars at Cedarville are writing right now, a column for Christian thoughts on educational theories, and a section for paper calls from trusted, Christian voices in higher education.鈥

Currently, the journal team is working on cover design, a journal title, and analyzing student input. They are also gathering content and seeking submissions from future contributors.

Readers will be able to access the first volume of the journal in late spring through Cedarville鈥檚 Centennial Library database. Print copies will also be available on campus. The school plans to publish an additional volume in later fall 2021.

鈥淥ur goal is to be the Christian voice in the field of education, making available the information and insights we have on excellent pedagogy and integrating biblical truth with strong educational scholarship,鈥 Jones added.
