Cedarville pharmacy students will be partnering with local police for the Drug Enforcement Administration鈥檚 (DEA) National Prescription on Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Cedarville, Springfield, Fairborn and Xenia.
鈥淗aving pharmacy students will be a great addition this year, so we can properly educate and inform the citizens of Clark County on any questions they have,鈥 explained Detective Brian Melchi of the Clark County Sheriff鈥檚 Office.
The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) found that in 2015, more than 50% of misused medications were from a friend or relative. In response, the DEA has coordinated National Drug Take Back Days to offer the public ways to safely dispose of unwanted medications.

"The purpose of our student involvement is to help educate the public about medication safety when dropping by the return sites. This includes handing out medication disposal flyers at Cedar Care Pharmacy,鈥 said Cindy Burban, Cedarville鈥檚 school of pharmacy鈥檚 director of community engagement.
鈥淩emoving outdated medications from the home is one major initiative everyone can do to help protect children and teens,鈥 continued Burban. 鈥淏y properly disposing of unwanted, unused, or expired prescription or over-the-counter medications, we are also protecting our communities from ground soil or water supply contamination. The public may safely dispose of pills, creams, powders, and liquid medications at the various drop off locations.鈥
