The Centennial Library at Cedarville University is running its fifth annual 鈥淏lind Date with a Book鈥 through March 3. The program helps students enhance their reading, while providing feedback on their book selections.
鈥淭he goal of 鈥楤lind Date with a Book鈥 is to increase student awareness of the variety of books, especially fiction, offered at the library,鈥 said Sharon Kerestes, the curriculum materials center librarian who runs the program. 鈥淭he program broadens students鈥 horizons by helping them read books they wouldn鈥檛 normally choose.鈥
Since 2014, 404 books have been checked out as part of the program. Each book is wrapped so the student doesn鈥檛 know its title. The suspense has created great memories for the students who participate, but it also gives the library staff information.
An anonymous 鈥渞ate your book鈥 comment card is included with each book. Students responses help guide the library鈥檚 future book purchases.
"I loved reading this book 鈥 it was so beautiful,鈥 said Lindsay Schell, a junior forensic science student from Waterloo, New York, after reading the book 鈥淔or Such a Time.鈥 鈥淚 appreciate the library doing special events like this to encourage a love for the written word.鈥
鈥淚 really enjoy this event. It gives me a chance to read books I wouldn't normally read,鈥 said Hannah Crane, a junior nursing student from Richmond, Indiana, after reading the book 鈥淪hiver.鈥
