The Cedarville University School of Nursing will celebrate its 2016 graduates with a hooding and pinning ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6 at Grace Baptist Church in Cedarville. A total of 87 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and 11 Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) graduates will be honored during the celebration, which will be followed by a reception.
The ceremony will include an opening processional of graduates and faculty, along with a welcome from Angelia Mickle, D.N.P., dean of the school of nursing. Lt. General (Ret.) Loren Reno, vice president for academics, will deliver opening remarks and a prayer. Mark McClain, Ph.D., dean of graduate and extended learning programs, will thank families and friends for sharing this special day and offer the closing prayer.
Graduates from the BSN program will receive a pin from Mickle and Amy Voris, D.N.P., assistant dean and director of undergraduate nursing programs, to symbolize the completion of their studies. MSN graduates will be hooded by Sharon Christman, Ph.D., assistant dean and director for Graduate Nursing Programs, along with graduate program faculty. The celebration features a time of praise and worship, led by members of Cedarville鈥檚 Christian Nursing Association (CNA) chapter.
The ceremony also features academic, character, and clinical awards for students and preceptors, along with a unique 鈥淪urrendering of Hands鈥 prayer time.
鈥淭he Surrendering of Hands is new for this year鈥檚 ceremony,鈥 said Mickle. 鈥淔amilies will pray over the graduates as they go into the world and use their hands to impact the lives of others, for God鈥檚 glory.鈥
This year marks the 31st graduating class from the school of nursing, which has prepared more than 1,700 nurses to enter the medical field over the past four decades. As part of its celebration of more than 30 years as a program, the school of nursing has developed a giving campaign for alumni in honor of founding faculty.
鈥淟ast year, we introduced the 30/30 campaign to our alumni,鈥 said Mickle. 鈥淭he 30/30 campaign seeks sustainability for our school of nursing. We have spent the last 30 years sending Christian nurses into the world and we want to continue this mission for another 30 more years and beyond.鈥
鈥淓very time we graduate a class, it鈥檚 emotionally stirring,鈥 Mickle said. 鈥淎s professors we invest in our student鈥檚 lives. Prayerfully, this results in the quality education of Christian nurses who are committed to having national and global impact for the kingdom. This is what matters.鈥
