Bookstore Wins National Window Display Award
is finding creative ways to showcase its wide range of merchandise while fostering school spirit. The National Association of College Stores (NASC) recognized the bookstoreās creativity by naming it the winner of its national dynamic display contest.
The winning display featured a 7-foot hive made of chicken wire and construction paper in honor of Cedarvilleās yellow jacket mascot. Merchandise and yellow jacket plush toys surrounded the hive, complete with a mannequin wearing a beekeeper hat.
āThe goal of the hive window display was to welcome students back to campus after Christmas break by promoting school spirit with as much āWOWā factor as possible,ā said Hilary Slone, the storeās assistant manager and the designer of the display. Slone, a 2008 Cedarville University graduate, studied studio art in college.
More than 3,000 colleges were invited to enter the display contest, which evaluated entries based on creativity, originality, visual impact and appeal and the scalability of the idea for other stores. NASC featured Cedarvilleās winning window display in the September/October edition of The College Store magazine.
āWe received tremendous feedback,ā said Slone. āIt was definitely our customersā favorite window display yet.ā
