Career Preparation — To ensure you are properly prepared to engage across the broad range of opportunities in civil engineering, you will undertake courses to develop knowledge and skills across a variety of civil engineering topics including:

• Construction Engineering and Project Management
• Materials Testing and Design
• Environmental Engineering, Water Treatment, and Air Pollution Management
• Geotechnical Engineering
• Structural Analysis and Design with Steel, Concrete, and Wood
• Transportation Engineering
• Water Distribution and Hydrology

During your junior and senior years, you will develop specialized technical skills in a specific subdiscipline of civil engineering through your selection of one of five civil engineering concentrations:

• Environmental Engineering
• General Civil Engineering
• International Infrastructure Engineering
• Structural Engineering
• Water Resources Engineering

Labs and Projects — Our program has been specifically designed to incorporate lab and project experiences across the curriculum. From building a 30-ft. wooden bridge as a freshman, designing and testing your own concrete mix, or configuring a functional water purification system, our whole program is designed to have you in the lab applying the concepts and theories you’re learning in class. As you do this, you will also be developing practical skills and experience to give you the competitive edge when you graduate. In Fall 2020, the new Cedarville University Civil Engineering Center (CEC) was opened. This 22,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility has been specifically designed around our hands-on approach to civil engineering.

Mentoring Faculty — Not only will your professors teach your classes, but they will also mentor and guide you as you progress through our program and out into the profession. Our professors are all committed Christians, who see their role as a calling from God, and recognize that great education extends beyond the classroom into all spheres of life. Our faculty and support staff are well-equipped to lead you through the deepest technical aspects of civil engineering, work alongside you on designs and projects, and provide you with sound spiritual, academic, and professional advising.

Real-World Experience — Through laboratory experiences, design competitions, and internships, you will gain valuable real-world experience as you pursue your engineering degree.

A BSCE degree can lead you to a variety of career opportunities. Civil engineering is one of the most in-demand engineering disciplines. Civil engineering jobs have a projected growth of 8% through 2024 (compared to a 3% projected growth for all engineering jobs).

As our society continues to grow and develop, demand for civil engineers continues to be strong. It’s not only about creating new public infrastructure. Growing national challenges with deteriorating roads, bridges, dams, pipelines and other infrastructure means that the need for civil engineers is continuing to increase. A growing civil engineering workforce is essential to ensure our nation’s continued economic growth, safety and security.

Civil engineers address a host of fundamental human needs and provide the foundational infrastructure upon which societies develop. It is important to note that some professional career fields you may pursue require additional education, experience, and/or licensure beyond the completion of your Cedarville University undergraduate degree.

Building on your core liberal arts and Bible minor courses, you will take a from the sciences, mathematics, and engineering fields. In addition to getting a broad education across several major disciplines of civil engineering, you will choose one specialty area as your concentration: environmental engineering, general civil engineering, international infrastructure engineering, structural engineering, or water resources engineering.
